(Its more like the one of Nagesh in Kamal's movie Namavar??) Trying to figure out the plot of the Bold and The Beautiful by reading the episode guide, all because I watched it when STAR first came to India. http://www.cbs.com/daytime/bb/

3 .Ur very first crush??still like him/her??or even remember them??
I didnt remember till you reminded. Well everyone who wanted to see it would have seen it. And those who dont want to see it, wouldnt listen to me.
I thought it was just a movie, not a statement. What was the big deal about it.

Book : One Two Buckle My Shoes, Agatha Christie. Unless you are a Poirot fan, stay away.

Cha ! If I had known I will be answering a Tag, would have seen / read something more interesting :(

10. Wat do u think of urself??
My name says what I think about myself.
But whats more important is what I Feel about myself. I love her energy and enthu for life.

12.in tune wid my list of silly questions……..another crappy one……ever fallen in luv??how does it feel??n wat sort of a lover were u….

Yes

When you are really in love, you dont think of marriage , you just feel happy, complete and fulfilled.
Its like feeling cold and wet in a harsh storm, and it stops suddenly and the sun comes out and you feel the warmth of the sun, and there is a slight drizzle, and you appreciate the rain, as it burshes your cheek, and feel the breeze which has replaced the harsh wind and then suddenly you see a rainbow. You dont think about possessing the rainbow, or taking the rainbow with you. Just want to take a deep breath and live the moment. Even after the rainbow disappears, you walk home with a skip in your footsteps and a hum in your throat. You cherish the moment and thank God for giving you life. Love is like that.
And when the person you love, says, I love you too, its like the sun rainbow rain and the breeze walking saying hey you make us feel great too.
And even if its almost a decade after marrying that person, you dont get tired, but look forward to the thought of spending the another moment with the person (even if it means fighting over the remote control:D)

Rotten lover (till yesterday:D), though a sincere lover (forever).

13. u also hv to say wat u felt abt the tag??
hmmm, what matters more, who is going to read it.

14.Den wat u feel abt the person who tagged u??
I thought I answered it on the 11th one. Well I dont like tags, but I like Savy, so I couldnt refuse the tag, and gave it my best. Hope I didnt let you down Savy. And you better read it :d

Now go ahead and tag…….
Its fun free
and more real than the TN govt's Color TV
Grab it Now :D

posted on Saturday, September 16, 2006 3:07 PM

tag 25

Tagged by idiot in o3

1. A month ago, she had been thrilled at her new assignment. A widow, and financially weak, she had been thrilled at the prospect of the financial security the new posting seemed to offer. But her entire department, inclusive of her seniors, seemed to be corrupt. Her dilemma was simple. She was getting instructions on files from her superiors who simply took the bribes that she rejected. And, indirectly, she was becoming a puppet in the hands of the corrupt system.

It was a battle in her mind between her conscience and temptation. She had discussed the problem with her parents and friends. They had been disappointed that she had not taken advantage of her position. And now they were aghast when they realised that she had been collecting evidence to act against the corrupt in her department. By indulging in these 'crusades', they pointed out, she would be jeopardising even her daughter's future. Her family put down her conscience to sheer stubbornness. Didn't it matter to them, her need to be honest and straightforward?

Temptation was very persuasive. After all, she was not taking any bribes personally and was following advice of seniors. If that was considered corruption, then why not go one small step further. and take advantage of the benefits that were being doled out to others in her department? View them as perks, maybe. When her superiors were so heavily involved, who would question her?

Her conscience now argued with her. The reasoning was simple - if you are not against them, you are with them, it said. It asked her to act as her conscience directed. She felt miserable. She had earlier felt like a puppet dancing to her corrupt superior's' tunes. Now it was worse. It was a tug of war between temptation and conscience in her own mind. She felt like breaking down.

Temptation seemed to come in with the knockout punch. What would she gain by antagonising her colleagues at office and her friends and family? The crux of the matter was that the system was corrupt. How many scams had been unearthed every year and, more importantly, how many had been ever punished? She didn't have the power to change the system. But surely, her pesky conscience nudged, she had the power to decide not to be part of this system.

Temptation, however, refused to give up so easily. It had another ally - fear. Surely, not everyone in her department would meekly accept her actions. What if they tried to transfer her, or, worse, frame her, or maybe even cause physical harm? What would happen to her daughter?

Conscience asked her not to muddle the issue. There was never a guarantee on any life, as she had realised when her husband had died. It didn't sugarcoat the consequences. If she had to live with her conscience, sacrifices would be required.

How significant would be her sacrifice? She picked up her daughter's history textbook lying on the floor. The freedom fighters mentioned in it, seemed to mock at her dilemma. Okay, maybe this was not the India our elders had fought for.

The temptation and the fear were huge when compared with the value of convictions. Temptation asked her to mind her own business; conscience implored her to do her work without giving in to temptations and carrying for the consequences.

She felt helpless and wondered "Conscience, Convictions, do they have any power?" She absentmindedly picked a book. It was a pictorial depiction of Ramayana. She stared at the pictures before her.

WHO WOULD QUESTION HIM, IF HE AGREED TO BE THE KING?

A human prince had to choose between pleasure and pain.
What would he gain, by choosing pain?

But he realized that -
The right path is not the one that is filled with roses,
but often it is filled with thorns

Refusing the kingdom, since his conscience was his king
he conquered the toughest enemy - the temptations within.
And instead of an Emperor, became a Conqueror

The Convictions of the Conqueror lifted him Higher and
Converted the value of His sandals, to another's Crown,

Bharat reverently raised to his head, the Conqueror's Crown.

We all need to doubt our doubts and believe in our beliefs

****
Appeared Earlier in http://www.sitagita.com/ViewArticle.asp?CatID=38&leafid=8461&cyberspace=38-20-0-0
in my series of short stories for them. Hmmm 5 out of 9 planets not bad:)

And part of my login id which I have not been able to access Indiatimes with.

And its 19 days since I typed the login id and gained entry.

Its Sunday, and I have to be realistic and cant expect o3 support to solve the problem today.

And is it o3 support's problem to solve?

Department problems exist not just in government.

I can imagine the file (electronically) sent from blogs team to email team to clubs team to customersupport to...

So dashed off an email to customersupport and email support etc again after a comment in o3support.

So to add to the monday morning blues, the Indiatimes will have to look at my email.

It did cross my mind, that perhaps I could send couple of jokes, after all the people at the other end are humans.
Cheer them up a bit and they say, hey how about looking into my problem

But I didnt want to convey the wrong impression of being insolent or too informal.
I think one is expected to be formal first not jovial.
And I certainly dont want anyone to think my problem is trivial

So just mentioned the core of my problem.
And the email bounced.
And mentioned the names behind the desk.
Huh what am I supposed to do?
Well dashed off another email to these names.
With a PS of the returned mail.

Last thing one wants to do is to convey the impression one is stalking media people!

So will the magic of 19 work?

Its too late today..
But the journey has become. Those of you who are interested can join and cheer me along:)
And patiently I will wait for my problems to be solved.

PS : I know its easy to just create another id and get on. Well for me its the quest for the ultimate blogspot. I have tried almost all blog servers (if you can think of one i could have missed ,postyour comment now)
The criteria is simple :
My blog must be on its featured list not once, but everyday. Ok I am ready to compromise, every alternate day or for 12 hours of the day.
Must receive atleast 100 comments, and 99 of them must be saying what a smart person I must be, and funundersun really delivers and is the wittiest blog in the web, and that it changed the way they view their life, and my blog has helped them to become a new person altogether, and they are eternally indebted to me.
Thats all!! And later how distressed I was when unnecessary abuses were hurled at me in O3. Of course there were plenty of moments when I thought it would be easier to quit o3, and continue in other blogsites where one doesnt get this "treatment".
But later I started worrying about the new bloggers. There were plenty of new blogs which would be welcomed by mainly 2 o3 bloggers with abuses. And I did wonder and worry at the thought, that perhaps some decided to quit blogging (in O3) just due to it.
Well one of the blogger is not blogging now due to personal reasons. And the other, a blogger who wrote "hope u fail" when a post came about an exam, to a new blogger, wrote this yesterday to a new blogger
"HI ___welcome to o3. This is the best blogging site.
We at o3 welcome new bloggers with open arms. Please feel free to ask us any query to blogging. please do visit other blogs too and make your presence felt
have a nice day
if ur pasting from word, keep a lot of distance between posts. it shud work“
Am I dreaming, Was that imposter, or do miracles happen :D
PS : Seems the part “ O3 is the best blogging site“ was for irritating another blogger. (And no marks for guessing the blogger who would get irritated :D with that). type='text'>An incident worth remembering.

Michael Moore attributes the publication of his book Stupid White Men: And Other Excuses for the State of the Nation, to the efforts of a lone librarian. On September 10th, Harper Collins printed the first 50,000 copies ready to be shipped. By the end of the following evening September 11th i.e 9/11, the publishing house decided it would be disastrous to distribute a book containing an open later to President Bush asking him if he was ever a drunk, felon or illiterate.
"It wasn't mean spirited," says Moore, "even I'm two out of those three." Harper Collins was in no hurry to publish a book that surfed against the patriotic wave sweeping across the country. "We'd like you to rewrite fifty-percent of it," they told Moore. They told him that "Florida cannot be called a coup," and they requested the chapter "Kill Whitey" to be reworded. When they asked Moore to change the title, he suggested, "Bring Me the Head of Antonia Scalia," as an alternative. They informed him that they would reprint the first 50,000 copies for the low, low fee of $10,000. Moore was not about to cut one word from the book.
Tired of Moore's resistance to censor himself, his editor called to tell him in late that his book "was going to be pulped."
On December 1st Moore found himself giving a presentation in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He told the audience about the struggle to get his book published and that the only copies in existence were about to be recycled and probably would come back as Rush Limbaugh or Bill O'Reilly books. Moore read the first of chapters of his book to the group. "You're probably the only people in America who will ever hear these words," he said. He asked the people in the room that day not to go to the press and make a fuss over it. It was his battle and he was determined to fight alone, away from the public eye. Somewhere in the audience that day was Ann Sparanese, a librarian from Englewood, New Jersey. She did not heed his warning about going public.
Like a cyberspace Paul Revere, Sparanese sent word to various email lists including SRRT (Social Responsibilities Round Table) and Library Juice, explaining Moore's situation. She conveyed this battle wasn't just one man's struggle with a publishing house, but was a battle to preserve free speech and to stop censorship.
Two days later Harper Collins phoned Moore. "What did you tell the librarians?" they asked. "We're getting hundreds of letters a day from angry librarians. Do you know how much business we do with these people?"
Harper Collins eventually gave Stupid White Men the green light but not before informing Mr. Moore "you are out of touch with the American people." They handed him the list of cities for the book tour. There were only three listed: Ridgewood, NJ Arlington, VA and Denver, CO. The message was clear to him, Harper Collins wanted no association with his book: Moore was on his own.
On the first day of its release, all 50,000 copies were sold. The next day it was the number one seller on amazon.com. By the fifth day, the book was in its ninth printing. As of today, it is in its twenty-second printing and is selling faster than the latest works from Grisham and Clancy combined.
"It's always one individual that sparks change; history has proven this time and again," Moore said in thanking Sparanese for completely ignoring his plea to keep his publishing squabble hushed. He noted that the day Sparanese sent her letter to the email lists, was an important day in American history, December 1st. On this day in 1955 a black seamstress boarded a bus in Birmingham, Alabama. When she was told to move to the back of the bus, she remained in her seat. She had made her stand by sitting. Thats the conclusion today but before your mind starts searching for the I Accept button, let me write about what i started writing first and then come to the above point (even if they dont seem to connect).(so no need to post a comment saying huh whats the point it doesnt make sense etc. I know about it. I accept it. Its sort of a subtle style to make you think that the lawmaker could be someone like me. or frankly the muse has gone on a weekend vacation) Well so u arrive at the date, oh how awful this is. And you don't know what to talk! Its easier receiving an Oscar, all you have to say is thank you to as many people as they will allow in the alloted seconds. (Of course you will omit some but you can also say i ran out of time or say of course i mentioned you. You were the first person i mentioned. Didnt you know i thought you were God.).
Before anyone starts wondering on my obsession with dating or start thinking ïf someone writes all this dumb stuff, perhaps God kindly endowed her with beauty and perhaps, another Ash (no Ash fans i didnt call her dumb) like to clarify that i am married and on the threshold of Thirty(Yeah when you still like to think you dont look thirty and the teenagers call you Aunty!).
I have wandered far from what i started(Those of you who after reading everything on the net, including the End User agreements might click on the link "The other Sky"and come to pages which give link to other stories i have writtenand got published and importantly got paid for. Most of them deal with law and life. And some may start wondering since i write about law and since i seem to jump from one point to another with a logic which seem like a walk through a maze, if, i am a lawyer. I am not. Though i had it as a subject in B.Com. All i remember from that is Ïgnorance of law is not an excuse". Interesting in a country with the illiteracy level as ours. And what struck me was the smart guy Jeffrey Archer. (ok not smart enough to avoid prisons. but he did write books about it. who will think that writing about what he has for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the work he has to do will make a bestseller. even if for the most of the days its the same stuff. and that too not just one book).(Anyway long long ago(when i was young) he did seem to be very smart and write smart books.)
Coming back to my ignorance of law point. By publishing his (Archer) diary, he had broken Rule 51 Para 23 by "naming staff such that they could be "identified" of the prison rules. And every immate has access to a copy of the prison rules in the library. Archer says that anyone who read his book on Belmarsh prison would know that he wasnt allowed to visit the library at Belmarsh. But even for Archer, Ignorance of law is no excuse and he was punished for it. If that could happen to JA. wonder about what the ordinary folks, know about law and how do they deal about it when they have to. On August 13, in the premises of the civil court, a group of women from the Kasturba Nagar slum of Nagpur attacked an accused rapist, Bharat alias Akku Yadav, with chilli powder, stones and sharp weapons. The result? The man died and four of the women have been taken into custody. What is even more shocking is that women police constables who knew of the case have eportedly stated, "If we were to be in their place, we would have done the same." http://www.indiatogether.org/2004/aug/ksh-justice.htm Honestly what would any one of us do, if we see a crime. Even becoming a witness, would make us think twice. We will worry not just if some don with a weird hairdo or an even worse laugh will send his henchman after us but also how many times they will have to go to police station and how many times they will have to go to court. Dont we categorise crime and think if it will be worth the effort to report it , even if we become a victim. How many will think twice before reporting a molestation or a theft of Rs.500. And worse how many will know they have been victimised. Minimum wages, laws reg sexual harrasment etc.
If you have read this far, and can't stand reading anymore of what you already know, and like the judge in the movies will like to bring me to task with an örder, order". (wishing of course that you could bang on my head); i will quickly conclude. I mentioned all this to say why i read a bit about law and write about law and life.(a site for those who would like to read about Bare Acts (dont get excited, it has nothing to do with anatomy.) http://www.helplinelaw.com
If Sweetnothings was wondering about being drunk from my irst post, after reading it now, will be wondering if this is hell after death. And The Creek will be thinking - reading this blog too should be in the never urgent never important list. (an interesting list thanks for mentioning)(Assuming of course that those who read it once will come back to read it again).Re whateveritis "Inspiration exists but it should find you working - Picaso"; i couldnt agree more but unfortunately my muse still hasnt read it. Well so if your life isn't full of people - from your teacher, to your parents to your spouses , telling you what you know you have to do, what is good for you etc etc, you have one more which makes you wonder "God what did i do wrong"- this blog. But the good thing about this blog is that while you cant shut the others, you dont have to read this. Unless, of course, you have been caught using the net in the office, and your HR manager thinks that readin this blog will keep you off the net.
When i remarked earlier about End User Agreements, i wanted to point out how many of us accept law in good faith. Since i have categorised under philosophy ( i will make another post on category) i will round off with - life is also like the End user agreement , sometimes, the best option is just to click accept. Is Accepting practical? When you resist what is happening in life, what is happening continues to happen, creating misery in you. When you accept what is happening in life, what is happening continues to happen, leaving you blissful. This is not an advertisement for inertia. There is a lot of difference between Ï dont like what is and i want it to be this and I accept what is and i would now make it this. (There is a good article on this on (i think feb 2004 Awakening)frozen

thoughts mag at www.almamater.com). And trust me, you wont roll your eyes when u read that.

PS : Lawyers are the only persons in whom ignorance of the law is not punished. And after more than 15 years I remembered her today. A chubby kid, hair in tight two plaits, and my younger sister her tution teacher, when we were in Mumbai. She was a student of my sister for a year. I dont remember her class but know it was at the primary level. And I remember her mother too. A big woman, anxious over her child and her grasp of Hindi. Who used to ask my sister everyday if her child would ever improve.
Oh but I didnt tell her why we called her Pa Paa Pi Pii. Well thats the way she used to write every alphabet in Hindi. For every letter she used to wonder the symbol by clicking her thumb against the fingers, with the Pa standing for the little finger, chanting quitely the Pa Paa Pi Pii etc till she arrived at the right finger and the right alphabet.
Think my sister would remember her more, after all didnt Pa Paa Pi Pii driver her crazy :) with her lack of speed in reading and writing. She used to that for every letter but since on the first day she started with Pa Paa Pi Pii, to receive a gasping sound and horror struck face from my sister, this nickname stuck to her.
She was a good student with decent marks in other subjects. I dont think she suffered from any learning disability. But to be honest, I dont remember much more of her, not even the name. Yet even now I can vividly recollect the anguish on her round chubby face. And also her earnestness to learn, and the disappointment over not being able to achieve, what her mother, and tution teacher wanted.
She did improve. And perhaps she was lucky that her parents could afford private tutions for her. And perhaps luckier to find a tutor who could knew her mother tongue and help her improve.
But wonder what happened to her later. Would it have made her stronger or weaker? Perhaps she has a better command over the language, now, than me (that wont be an achievement) or perhaps she didnt pass a standard because of her poor marks in Hindi. And suffered from lack of self confidence.
Yesterday night in a blog I argued against Hindi being imposed on students to learn. And I wondered why I took it so personally. And today morning I woke up to remember Pa Paa Pi Pii. And now cant stop wondering about her.
Language a means of communication, but what did the language communicate to her. That she was stupid for not understanding it, for not remembering it properly? That it was unpatriotic of her to not pass in a Hindi exam? Learning something new is not easy for many students. But in Pa Paa Pi Pii's case, its about , how much she has to learn and at what stage?
National language is important. But in Indonesia, it was arrived at not on the basis of what the majority spoke, but on what was easy to learn. And the majority learnt it successfully.
How many words are required for basic communication? 100? How many sentences should be known for basic communication 50?
Yet why should knowing a basic communication be an imposition at the primary level. Why should a student learn 3 languages from the primary stage itself. Is every mind capable of absorbing that burden? Why cant Hindi (even if it has become a national language without any research on how easy it is to learn,) be taught as a basic communication subject, at the secondary level without the pressure of passing in it, instead of it being taught in the same level as other two languages?
Sorry Pa Paa Pi Pii. You deserve to be remembered by me in a better manner. But if you had failed at passing Hindi at school, or dont grasp it, it doesnt make you less patriotic.

Yesterday National Legal Literacy Mission was launched by the Prime Minister.
