Watch what your kid is watching

In today's nuclear families, TV started as a baby sitter. But now TV has become the third parent. And some studies show that kids trust TV more than parents!!
Couple of days back I happened to see a cartoon channel with a kid. And the degree of violence shown in some of them is amazing. People complain about vulgar music videos but surely this too is serious.
When we have censor board deciding on what adults should watch, shouldnt there be some rating for these programmes by psychologists to guide the parents like above 3 above 6 etc.
How can we expect our kids to realise mindless violence is not ok, when its ok in cartoons. In fact many cartoons seem to suggest that violence is a form of fun. The child may not be able to distingush the difference between the real world and cartoons. If a parent goes about being violent to others we condemn and say its a poor example for the child, but when the third parent does it, shouldnt society step in?
